We are a coalition of volunteer community members dedicated to working strategically and collaboratively towards community well-being and a better quality of life for everyone. We exist to connect a community of action-oriented organizations and people who are committed to social inclusion and building a Nova Scotia where no one lives in poverty 

Our Goals and Objectives:

  1. Income, Social Security, and Dignified Employment: All Nova Scotians are ensured dignified access to a livable income
  2. Housing Security: Safe, secure, accessible, and affordable housing is a realizable human right for all Nova Scotians
  3. Public Education, Health, and Social Services Universal Public Services: All Nova Scotians have access to free high quality publicly funded childcare, education, and compassionate health and social services that ensure their social wellbeing and physical and mental health, and social well-being throughout their life course.
  4. Food Security: All Nova Scotians have access to safe, sufficient, nutritious, affordable, culturally appropriate, and environmentally sustainable food as a realizable human right.=
  5. Public Transportation: Everyone has access to affordable and accessible publicly funded transportation within and between all urban and rural communities in Nova Scotia.

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the coordinator is to support the volunteer-run coalition to achieve its goals. The coordinator will work closely with the chair, to help coordinate meetings and agendas, correspond with members, and monitor and manage the coalition’s website and social media accounts.

Compensation 

  • This is a contract, term, part-time position for one year (with the possibility of extension);
  • The position is for 8 hours a week and pays $22.30 an hour.

Job Accountabilities 

  • Prepares and sends out doodle polls and meeting agendas.
  • Uses MailChimp to send notices of meetings and communications.
  • Post meetings and other items to the website.
  • Ensure email addresses and email list is accurate.
  • Scan emails and respond appropriately (send to Chair, etc).
  • Assist with setting up in-person and online meetings.
  • Provides administrative support to projects like a speaker’s series, preparing documents for lobbying government re-elections
  • Other duties as prescribed.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Advanced knowledge of computer programs MS operating systems, Zoom, Office 365.
  • Knowledge of effective administrative procedures, office equipment, report generation, and database systems.

  • Expected to use professional judgment and professional attitude in all dealings with Coalition members and the public.
  • Must be a strong communicator.
  • Must have strong organizational skills by effectively determining day-to-day priorities and using judgment to ensure tasks are organized.
  • Must be flexible in creating and suggesting alternative solutions to meet goals.
  • Must be flexible with ongoing challenges and changes.
  • The capacity to work independently and provide solid judgment to the responsibilities of the role is required.
